OVERCAST

Optical Variability Evaluation of Regional Cloud Asymmetries in Space and Time

Geolocated Information Processing System (GeoIPS)

The Geolocated Information Processing System (GeoIPS) will act as both a method of running each of the OVERCAST algorithms in a consistent manner and as the vehicle for transitioning OVERCAST algorithms to the US Navy. GeoIPS is a generalized processing system currently in operational use by the US Navy. It is intended for ingesting geolocated data and outputting value-added data products in a variety of formats including imagery (PNG, JPEG, GeoTIFF, Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF) and data products (HDF, NetCDF, CSV). It uses a plugin-based architecture to provide a collection of predefined algorithms and product implementations while also allowing for easy extension by third parties without needing to modify the GeoIPS code.

    Goals:

  • To assist OVERCAST team members with adaptation of their algorithms and techniques to work as GeoIPS plugins.
  • To add new features to GeoIPS to support the OVERCAST algorithms and techniques as required, in collaboration with the Naval Research Laboratory.
  • To construct and maintain a processing pipeline for generating OVERCAST outputs using GeoIPS. This pipeline will operate both on receipt of data and on request.
